Please join us in showing our appreciation for Kendal intern Rachel Boliver and her participation in the LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program, designed to provide leadership opportunities for students in aging services. Rachel is a rising University of Delaware senior working toward a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Psychology. She comes to Kendal with experience volunteering for a program called “Conversation to Remember,” which offers a listening ear to those experiencing cognitive decline.

Since June, Rachel has been working with the Innovation, Growth and Impact (IGI) Team at The Kendal Corporation. This allowed her to experience the field of aging through a 10-week paid internship that exposed her to the values, mission, and operations throughout Kendal.

Rachel shares, “I was excited to learn about all the areas that encompass the Kendal System and have the opportunity to have more engagement with older adults and those that work at Kendal affiliates.”

Diane Massey, Director of Outreach and Engagement and Rachel’s internship coordinator, was interested in hosting an intern from her prior work as a higher education career counselor. Her background in career development taught her the importance of engaging students in real-world experiences to have different opportunities within their field of interest. The internship highlighted the importance of connections throughout the Kendal System.

The intent is not necessarily for the intern to know precisely what they want to do with their career following the internship but to be more open-minded and knowledgeable about the positions they would only know about with this experience. The hope is that they feel inspired…….and have fun too!

Rachel’s work included learning more about each of the roles at the organization and working directly with the IGI team on project management and new business development. One focus was gathering and presenting information about various sustainability initiatives throughout Kendal communities.

Diane expresses, “Kendal is proud to have the opportunity as a member of LeadingAge to shape a future leader and grateful for Rachel’s good work.”

Thank you, Rachel, for your contributions and best of luck in your future endeavors.
