Message from Vassar

Greetings and Happy Spring (even if it is still snowing in some locations…)

I want to take a moment to share what’s happening across Kendal: not just the progress we’re making, but the direction we’re heading and why I believe we are well-positioned for what’s ahead.

This past year, we completed a rebuild of the Leadership Team at TKC, one intentionally assembled to bring stronger expertise, deeper resources, and clearer coordination to each Affiliate. These are experienced leaders who bring real operational track records, and their work is already being felt across the System. This work has been about putting the right people in the right roles so that every Affiliate has genuine partners standing alongside them.

One of the most tangible results of this investment is our new real-time data platform. For the first time, every Affiliate will have access to clear, consistent visibility into the metrics that matter most: occupancy, financial health, workforce trends, and resident outcomes. Through system-wide benchmarking, leaders will be able to track performance over time and compare it with peers, surfacing opportunities for optimization and improvement that are invisible when working in isolation. Data that typically takes weeks to arrive will soon be available on demand to better inform decisions in the moment, and those that look farther into the future.

This platform is being built the right way: through the collective input of all System IT Peers and the consensus of every Affiliate. That process: collaborative, deliberate, and System-wide, is itself the model. It is a core example of what Kendal can accomplish when we move together with shared purpose and shared accountability. There will be more to come.

The work ahead is significant, and I would not want to face it with any other group of leaders. What we are building at Kendal is not simply a stronger organization; it is a more human one, one where members and residents can count on us to keep improving on their behalf. That is the work, and we are just getting started.
