Introducing “Floor-ence”- Kendal at Oberlin’s Cleaning Robot

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oberlin, OH – October 17, 2024—In an innovative and fun move towards improved efficiency and efforts to address workplace staffing challenges, Kendal at Oberlin has introduced its first energy-efficient cleaning robot, affectionately named “Floorence” by the senior living community through a popular naming contest. This innovative cleaning solution made its debut this month, aiming to enhance cleanliness in high-traffic areas. “Floorence”, developed by Pringle Robotics, stands out for its ability to perform tasks verbally, efficiently avoid obstacles, and return to its charging port autonomously. A generous grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, covering 75% of the purchase cost, made the robot’s introduction possible. This initiative not only supports current staffing needs but also significantly reduces potential work-related injuries.

Crystal Hall, Environmental Operations Manager, oversees “Floorence” and can even assign cleaning tasks remotely via an app. “The robot certainly won’t replace any jobs,” Crystal assures. “However, the housekeeping department does experience staffing shortages, making it difficult to keep up with the floor care needs spanning this large community. So, the cleaning robot will be a big help”

Office Manager Dale Preston announced the name in his weekly community email, jokingly stating, “I’m tempted to say ‘Welcome, Floorence! – but it is just a machine, right?” The sentiment echoes the community’s excitement and engagement with this new technological advancement.

The acquisition of “Floorence” marks a significant stride toward innovation at Kendal at Oberlin. It highlights the company’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for both residents and employees. This technology-driven step is expected to address staffing challenges and elevate overall operational efficiency.
