West Chester, Pennsylvania, May 18, 2017—Barclay Friends Board of Directors announced today that it has selected Linda Sterthous, long-time leader of Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line (formerly Martins Run) to succeed Carol Hanson in July as Executive Director of Barclay Friends in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Barclay Friends is a not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community affiliated with Kendal.

“I am thrilled to join Barclay Friends family of residents, staff and board members,” Linda said. “The reputation of the community is stellar, and its commitment to arts and horticulture in resident programming puts it at the forefront of innovation in senior living. It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of Carol Hanson.”

Linda served as Chief Executive Officer of Martins Run in Media, Pennsylvania, from 1998 until its affiliation with Wesley Enhanced Living in 2015, when she became Executive Director there. Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line is a continuing care retirement community on a 22-acre campus with 165 independent living apartments, 30 personal care residences and 60 skilled nursing accommodations. As head of that organization, Linda’s responsibilities included strategic planning, financial management, budgeting, board relations and oversight of the leadership team.

Besides directing the affiliation process with Wesley Enhanced Living, during her tenure Linda led the development of a comprehensive long-range plan, master facilities and fundraising plan. She also developed and implemented a $6 million campus expansion, including dining venues, indoor pool, fitness complex and physician’s office.

Before Wesley Enhanced Living, Linda served as Vice President & Director, New Product Development, for Ceridian Performance Partners & The Partnership Group and at Magee Rehabilitation in Philadelphia as Program Director in the Center for Neurosensory & Musculoskeletal Rehab. She graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in health planning and administration and has a master’s degree in public administration from Temple University.

Carol Hanson, Executive Director at Barclay Friends notified the Board of Directors in January that she will retire June 30, 2017, after leading the organization for more than 25 years.

Barclay Friends Board of Directors established a Search Committee to assist the Board in identifying Carol’s successor.

Ben James, Chair of the Search Committee, thanked the Search Committee and the Board of Directors, for their time and commitment in this effort. He said the Search Committee was pleased to find a candidate with extensive experience in senior living and alignment with Barclay Friends’ Quaker-based values. The Board of Directors enthusiastically supported the Search Committee’s recommendation and looks forward to working with Linda Sterthous as she leads Barclay Friends into the future.
