Aug. 7, 2017, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania—Stephen G. Bailey, who joined Kendal’s corporate staff in 2012 as Project Director, has been named Senior Vice President for New Business & Development. Kendal, a leader in the field of aging services with headquarters in the southeastern Pennsylvania/metro Philadelphia area, is among the 10 largest not-for-profit senior living organizations in the U.S.
“Along with extensive experience and skills, Steve consistently brings equal levels of acumen and ease to his work, and to his colleagues inside and outside of Kendal,” Kendal President and CEO Sean Kelly said. “Steve has led several projects within Kendal and continues that work in a manner that the entire Kendal System can be very proud of. We are extremely fortunate to have a man of Steve’s caliber and integrity leading our Development Team.”

Over the past five years, Bailey has directed major expansion and repositioning projects for several Kendal communities, including Kendal on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, New York, and Kendal at Ithaca in Ithaca, New York. He also has served as a key resource for planning and developing new Kendal communities.
Currently, Bailey is overseeing development plans for Kendal at Sonoma in northern California, in partnership with the San Francisco Zen Center. The Zen-inspired community, designed for individuals 55 and older, will nurture the practices of meditation and mindfulness and be designed for a diverse population with wide-ranging needs and interests and operated with a spirit of inclusion.
“I appreciate the opportunity to take on a larger role at Kendal, and very much look forward to working with Kendal’s Board and the leadership team on strategy and new business opportunities,” Bailey said. “As always, our priority will be to support the Kendal affiliates in their expansion and repositioning efforts, with a renewed focus on developing and sharing model practices around the Kendal System.”
Bailey’s experience includes more than 30 years in real estate development and planning. During his career, he has had the opportunity to direct multiple large commercial, residential and institutional projects throughout the eastern United States from concept development through construction and occupancy.
A Licensed Landscape Architect, Bailey earned his undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University and an MBA from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire. He is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments and the Urban Land Institute. Bailey has participated in panel discussions and presentations at national annual meetings of LeadingAge.
Bailey is a past Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and is a past member of the boards of directors of the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Delaware chapter of CCIM and of the Philadelphia chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
