Subsequent to the February 17 article, Kendal submitted a letter to the editor and we were pleased that our letter was accepted for publication. We appreciate the newspaper’s acknowledgement of Kendal's impact on the history of the restraint-free care movement as well as the outcomes achieved from the dedicated training and implementation efforts on the part of Kendal and participating long-term care providers. Read the original February 17th USA Today article "Fewer Care Facilities Use Restraints for Elderly Residents" and Kendal’s March 4th follow-up letter to the editor "Kendal Pioneered Restraint-free Care" both on the USA Today web site. We were also pleased to receive a letter from Jennifer Burnett, Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Read the Secretary’s letter. In the letter, Deputy Secretary Burnett expresses gratitude to Kendal for the impact it has had, along with the many dedicated providers involved in this effort, that has led to the reduction in the use of restraints in Pennsylvania.
